Bench Welding
Welding two pieces of glass together is very similar to the process used to join two pieces of metal via oxyacetylene or TIG welding. A rod of the material being joined (in our case, pure fused quartz) is fed into a liquid weld pool, which in turn is generated by a hand held torch.
Hydrogen and Oxygen have been the gases used to produce a quartz-working flame. For semiconductor applications, which requires extremely clean material, Ultrapure Hydrogen and Oxygen is necessary. Since water vapor is the flame byproduct, this gas combo is the perfect fuel for maintaining the high purity levels demanded in our quartz products.
We design and make our torches in house using high purity materials.
The welding team here at LTD Material each have between 15 to 35 years experience fabricating quartz. Our glassblowers undergo hours of rigorous in-house training that requires years to achieve master glass blower certification. Master glass blowers then train and manage the apprenticeship of up and coming glass blowers.
